Cyclone Shakti Triggers Rain Alert Across Maharashtra;

Mumbai, October 5, 2025 – Maharashtra is bracing for heavy to very heavy rainfall as Cyclone Shakti approaches, with authorities issuing rain alerts across Konkan, Marathwada, and several other parts of the state.

Coastal and interior districts including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are expected to experience strong winds ranging from 45 to 55 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 65 km/h. Sea conditions along the coast are likely to remain rough, posing significant challenges for maritime activities.

According to meteorological forecasts, Cyclone Shakti is expected to move west-southwestwards into the Arabian Sea before recurving and heading east-northeast. The cyclonic system is predicted to gradually weaken by October 6, though its impact on the state will continue until then.

Interior Maharashtra, particularly East Vidarbha and parts of Marathwada, is likely to witness heavy rainfall. Low-lying areas in North Konkan face potential flooding risks, prompting local authorities to remain on high alert.

However, Mumbai and some neighboring districts may be spared from heavy downpours. Weather forecasts indicate only scattered light rain or drizzle in these areas until approximately October 8.

In response to the cyclone threat, the state government has activated disaster management protocols and issued advisories for evacuations in vulnerable zones. Fisherfolk have been strongly cautioned against venturing into the sea until conditions improve.

Residents in affected areas are advised to stay updated with official weather bulletins and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
